Frozen Fruit Recall: Products Sold at Aldi, Target and Trader Can Be Listeria Contaminated
Consumers should check their freezers for certain frozen foods sold at many retailers across the country. Sunrise Growers Inc., a subsidiary of SunOpta Inc. in Minneapolis, is voluntarily recalling frozen fruit products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
According to a statement by the company on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, the frozen fruit product is linked to pineapples supplied by third parties.
Consumers should check their freezers for recalled products and avoid eating them. To receive a refund, the product must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

Products ranging from mixed fruits to berries to mixed fruits were sold to numerous retail outlets across the country. Product photos from fda.gov show a variety of frozen fruit products, including products containing bananas, cherries, pineapples, strawberries, and mangoes. A full list of products with lot numbers and expiration dates is available at fda.gov.
According to the recall, in Michigan, Season’s Choice brand products were distributed in Aldi stores from October 11, 2022 to May 22, 2023, and in Trader Joe’s stores from March 28, 2023 to April 11, 2023.
The product was distributed to Good & Gather stores nationwide from October 14, 2022 to May 22, 2023, and to some Whole Foods Market stores from November 1, 2023 to June 21, 2023.
Walmart stores in more than 30 states (excluding Michigan) are included in the recall.

What is Listeriosis?
Listeriosis is an infection caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. People can get listeriosis after eating contaminated food.
The disease primarily affects pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
Listeria can cause serious and fatal infections in children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems, the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say.
According to the CDC, “it is rare for other groups of people to get sick from Listeria infection.”
If you experience symptoms of listeria infection, you should contact your health care provider.
According to the CDC, about 1,600 people get listeriosis each year and about 260 die.
Symptoms of listeria infection
The CDC says symptoms of listeria infection can vary depending on the person and body part affected.
A healthy person may experience high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Symptoms typically start 1 to 4 weeks after eating listeria-contaminated food, but can start up to 70 days after exposure, the CDC says.

Typically, pregnant women experience only fever and other flu-like symptoms such as fatigue and muscle aches. However, infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infections in the newborn.
High-risk group other than pregnant women
Symptoms include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, fever and muscle aches.
